David Bruce (microbiologist)

MajorGeneral Sir David Bruce KCB FRS FRCP FRSE was a Scottish pathologist and microbiologist who investigated brucellosis and trypanosomes, identifying the cause of sleeping sickness.

He was born in Bendigo, Australia to Scottish parents, engineer David Bruce and his wife Jane Russell Hamilton , who had emigrated to Australia in the gold rush of 1850. He returned with his family to Scotland at the age of five. They lived atVictoria Square in Stirling.
